Hi everyone,

Since this site is dedicated for medical students, and as long as we are registering here as medical students, Are we all being medical students out in reality???

A simple example is Smoking in Hospitals.
I know very well that all patients and even doctors sometimes smoke in a hospital, but how many people have asthma? how many infants are there? and how much does this affect to further pollute the patients and doctors environment in our crowded local hospitals????

A singel action one can do is to ask them to stop smoking! And insisting on your demand!

We are all here choosing a hard way to be doctors, I hope many of us consider how much does it take to be a real concerning doctor and someone cares for people's lives!

What do you think? Can you ask someone in hospital while you are wearing a white coat to stop smoking?? And Insist on making a better environment for your patients???
Stay safe.

Well, I totally agree with you, but the point is that not everyone will find it easy, or say find the courage to tell a stranger to drop the cigarette, especially that we are not doctors, yet....
But I believe we can change ourselves, and this change will be something.
We can ask our friends & colleagues to stop smoking, not just around the hospital, but also in college, so as to set an example.
I know that those who smoke can't stop right away, and can't really accept what we demand, but for a change... will u stop smoking this 5 hours u spend in college? or minimize it there?

Well I think at least we ask her nicely or him nicely and have the courage to talk about it. I mean maybe just asking is it harmful for the patient you smoke infront of him? or like an inquiry question. Maybe you can a bad reply, but at least you try and by trying u not only give your opinion, u will learn how to deal with our people, learn how to talk to them, how to start the subject and how to drive it for their benefit.

I used to face bad answers but also good answers from some smokers and good response. I ask some to drop cigarrette nicely and sometimes forcefully. I am the doctor there after all! biggrin.gif

As for staff members, maybe we can make kind of campaign or we put a project to make awareness about this problem inside the hospital, we talk to the hospital adminstrator and staff doctors.....the negative ones!? we don't follow them. We need to stick to positive people to make change I think.

Thanx for ur reply...waiting for more cool.gif

Stay safe

well , i think that what we need in our society is health education as teaching the staff in the hospital about the danger of smoking specially in hospitals , but what can we do if amer says that even the nurse is smoking
can any one believe it !!!!

i can't say more than you said all about it ..
i hate cigarettes .. i hate the smoke .. i hate the smokers .. and let them hear me sayin it .. i hate them .. they can't control themselves , what's the point of smoking and drinking tea in a 50 degree hot weather ? .. it's crazy .. and they simply tells you it's joyfull .. well it's not ..it's addiction! .. and they can't addmitt it !
anyway .. when we can do something someday about it ,, i recomend to start with staf at first ... cause the patient will smoke when he sees the dr. or the nurse smoke ...!
we should do something
